Our story:
Katarina and I have been really good friends for a couple of years now. In July of 2011, we both got really motivated to lose weight and started counting calories using Sparkpeople's calorie counter. She lost approximately 30 pounds within a couple of months and I lost close to 90 pounds within a year and a couple of months. We find that counting calories is effective but can lead to some stress, especially if you focus on counting every single calories as opposed to focusing on the quality of food eaten.
Throughout the past year, I have gained 30 of the pounds that I lost and I am currently set back to about 60 pounds lost. So, how did the idea of #10daysoffitness come about? It's actually quite simple. First of all, this is based on the hands-on experience that I have had with my weight loss journey for the past 2 years. Also, Katarina has had some experience with her own weight loss journey and she will provide her own personal input when it comes to her guest blogs.
Throughout my weight loss journey, I have realized that it really is a matter of both nutrition and fitness. One is not more important than the other. It really all boils down to finding a healthy balance between the two. In the Spring of last year, Sparkpeople had a challenge for 30 days and people participating in the challenge were encouraged to use the tag #30daysoffitness.
So, why is this website not called #30daysoffitness? Here we go. So, I didn't end up doing the challenge when they did it. But, it did spark me to start my own thirty day challenge in June. I lasted probably until about day 22. Not only did I get bored with it but, it was too long of a challenge for so many days of fitness and in those last few days, I was feeling myself going through the motions. Sort of just doing it just to get it done with no real motivation to finish the challenge. And, I didn't.
Fast forward to August of 2013. I decided to do a mini challenge for myself. Something that I could do, wouldn't get bored and it would help me get back into my fitness. I knew the challenge was going to be fitness related. So, I thought: 10 days, not too much (remember 30? 20 wasn't going to cut it, either), not too little. I also thought I would make it easily attainable but, also challenging. 10 days for 20 minutes each day. I know there are those out there that say, "At least 10 minutes a day...." But, I wanted to also challenge myself a little bit more, hence the 20 minutes minimum came about.
From there, it was all history. I started tagging my days on Twitter and Facebook. And, through all of this, Katarina and I started to really get motivated again with the weight loss. And I saw her awesome blog (which you can follow here: Kattenstance) and I thought, a blog would be great. The name 10daysoffitness for the blog sort of seemed like a natural. I could make 10 days of fitness a program. Do the #10daysoffitness for 10 days, have 1-2 (maybe 3 every once in a while, also) rest days and then start all over again. It seemed perfect. I thought it'd be great to have our own website and just redirect the blog (for now, eventually we will have a more professionally-built site.)
And here we are.
